Easy Cable Management

Easy Cable Management

This cable management clip provides secure storage for cables while still allowing easy access to add or remove cables as needed. The design is inspired by a clip I used on the job years ago, which was so popular that everyone wanted one, but unfortunately no one knew who made it. To meet this demand, I recreated the original using OpenSCAD. Several ready-to-print versions are included in the design, with large clips capable of holding 24+ cat6 cables. The medium clip is suitable for about 8 cat6 cables or 6 line cords, while small clips will hold 2 cat6 cables or several smaller wires. Small/tall clips are ideal for 3 cat6 cables and for managing extra wire from a/c adapters. To customize the design to your liking, I've included the OpenSCAD source code. If you do decide to make changes, I recommend using the open base/two screws option as it gives the clip more flexibility. On the other hand, if you're using double-side tape, go with closed back/no screws for a more secure hold. When printing my own clips, I used black ABS at 50% infill and 0.3mm layers, with the base facing down and no support material. The advantages of using ABS in this case are that it can be chemically welded to make the clips even stronger. To do this, you'll need a large ziplock bag, some acetone, and a sheet of paper towel. First, dampen the wad of paper towel with acetone, then place it in one corner of the bag. Next, put your printed parts inside the bag and seal it. After about an hour, carefully remove the parts from the bag and let them air out overnight.
