Eastern Hognose Snake (and Prey) Skeleton
sketchfab
The skeletal remains of an eastern hognose snake (Heterodon platirhinos, UF-H-69528) are preserved in fluid, housed at the Florida Museum of Natural History. When captured, it was actively consuming a toad; CT scans also revealed that it had previously eaten a newt, which was still present further down its digestive tract. This model is generated from a CT scan taken by a Phoenix V|Tome|X S, processed using Volumegraphics VGStudioMax 3.3 software. It was created to support an educational activity developed during the UF Center for Precollegiate Education and Training workshop "3D Vertebrates: From Museum Shelves to Classrooms." The scanning and modeling of this specimen were made possible by funding from the oVert project at the University of Florida (NSF DBI 1701714, https://tinyurl.com/oVertwiki).
