A trench was excavated directly across the East Franklin Mountains fault near the Beaumont Medical Center, located in El Paso, Texas. The trenching study was led by T.L. Pavlis of UTEP, with assistance from J.M. Hurtado, Jr., also of UTEP, as well as J. McCalpin from GeoHAZ Consulting, and a team of students from UTEP who worked together in February 2016. The project to excavate the trench was funded by the USGS National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program.
