Easily Swappable Extruder Head for Original Prusa i3 Mk3 and clones
thingiverse
This is a remix of the 126% build volume mod, representing the exchangeable extruder only. It features an updated connector built directly into the head, utilizing the new parts from Prusa with improved air flow (R3). Good soldering skills are required for this project. It's recommended to use this mod when your extruder electronics, including motors and heater cartridges, operate at 24 volts. Otherwise, it may be more suitable to utilize the original mod with a connector that allows for higher current or find a pin connector rated for higher current, such as 4 amps, if you have a 12V 40W heater cartridge. To assemble this project, print all required parts at standard settings in Slic3r PE. Begin by gluing the extruder shoes into their designated holes within the extruder body, ensuring accurate orientation (refer to pictures for guidance). This process works best with ABS, allowing the parts to be melted together; JBweld is an alternative adhesive. Additional support can be achieved by drilling holes and using small screws. Next, rebuild the entire extruder and guide cables through the components as demonstrated in the provided pictures. Solder the connectors according to the specified pin layout or develop your own design. Finally, insert the extruder head and initiate printing. TODO: Test new design Upload pictures
