RepRap platform levelling is known to be a tedious task for owners, often poorly documented and requiring careful adjustment of the assembly. The typical platform bed heats via a PCB with holes for M3 screws that can put strain on the assembly. To simplify levelling, one nut is redundant, leaving only three points needed to define the platform's plane. A preferred solution is using a PCB heated bed for its simplicity, efficiency, and compared to other options like wired resistors. A practical design involves a 'sandwich' of green glass, red PCB heated bed, brown 5mm cork sheet, and gray laser-cut 3mm aluminum. This assembly is supported by three screws and fixed to ABS parts. The M3 screws secure the aluminum plate and PCB Heated Bed, while spot clamps fix the glass platform. Linear bearings are mounted on ABS supports and positioned using an aluminum plate that defines the frame and holds the belt. For levelling, the front screw is fixed to an ABS platform support in a way that allows rotation without unscrewing the nut. The aluminum base is threaded, causing the platform to raise or lower when the screw head is turned. The rear screw acts as a ball (pivot) with elastic cork washers for slight rotation, ensuring platform stability. This design is intended for standard 148mm RepRap platforms but may need modification for other designs. A symmetrical platform centered at 245mm would provide a print area of about 200mm. The hot-end should be offset from the center to improve performance, and free travel length should be around 450mm. The distance from the guides to the printing surface is 45mm, which can affect Z-axis travel.
