The NASA Experiment Attachment System (EAS) Challenge requires solving a 3D puzzle, introducing EASEL - an Engineered Lego-set for experiment attachment. Comprising two stackable shapes, zigzag main frames and triangular braces, the kit includes components for attachment pins. It can consist of three frames for small experiments and stabilize with six zigzag frames and two triangular braces for maximum stability. Pins and studs can be attached before launch or onboard ISS. EASEL is modular and stackable, allowing versatile material configurations for assembly. Stainless steel pins and zigzag frames are used, with aluminum and ABS for added rigidity. The frames can also function as wiring harnesses, brackets, or cable organizers. In case of accidental bending, the bent frame can be straightened and reinforced by cut-out frames. Cut-out features accommodate plastic cable ties and articulating detachable clips for permanent connection. CNC machines create precise mating surfaces and mounting plates with access to compact rotary latches. The captive pin assembly has two configurations - split-type rotary latches or screwed-type latches, each providing secure attachment. If not requiring a tighter launch envelope, pins and studs can be attached before launch, simplifying assembly onboard ISS without tools.
