An earthenware pitcher designed for robust beer comes complete with a cover and packaging. At that time, it was packed using muslin cloth between the lid and jug, secured by tying the entire package vertically on wooden ceilings. The pitchers were then placed in sandbeds for transportation via carts or ships. The beer matured within the jars; this method is now only seen in handcrafted oil and wine production processes.
