Earth layers model
thingiverse
Earth model with cutout to see inner shells. My son and I created this for a school project together. Shells' diameters are slightly disproportional to make them easy to print. If we tried to follow the real proportions, the crust and lithosphere would get very thin. The SCAD source is included so you can play with proportions if you wish. Outer diameter is 150mm. Stand height is 50mm. Assembly: Print all shells but the crust in different colors and glue them together. The crust can be printed as a whole, but it's easier to print four sections and glue them together. Print the nut holder and put an M5 nut inside. Then drill a 5mm hole somewhere on the crust and glue the nut holder with the nut to the inner side of the crust. Then glue the crust and all inner shells together. Print a stand. Two versions are available - straight and smoothed. Open the legend.svg file in Inkscape and print the legend on a dense paper. Hide the "path" layer before printing. Two versions are available there - English and Russian. I recommend putting a broad transparent adhesive tape over the print and cutting the legend with an exacto or paper knife. Then glue the legend to the stand bottom plate. Finish the hole in the stand with a 5mm drill. Put an M5 screw inside and tighten the stand to the crust. Draw numbers on shells with a permanent marker or 3D-pen.
