A Highly Detailed Earth Model Based on Satellite Imagery. The displacement map of our planet as a sphere is calculated accurately from satellite images, ensuring that land locations are precisely rendered. Although the displacement itself is not to scale, this approach allows for clear visibility of even the smallest geographical features. When printing this model, small supports may form between smaller landmasses due to the inherent nature of 3D printing technology. To remove these supports effectively, we recommend using a non-sharp metal tool, which will facilitate smooth removal without damaging the surrounding material. The distinctive landforms are an integral part of the model's shell and should remain attached under normal conditions, eliminating concerns about detachment or degradation due to friction. This also helps differentiate supports from the main model: if plastic comes away from the surface, it's likely a support that needs to be removed. The sharpness of edges on the printed model may vary depending on your material choice and print settings. Using PLA with a layer thickness of 0.13mm produces a relatively smooth finish that is safe to handle after supports are carefully removed.
