A delicate snowflake takes shape as a single ice crystal or an intricate cluster of crystals, gently drifting through Earth's atmosphere. Its journey begins as a microscopic cloud droplet that freezes into a tiny snow crystal. As it falls, snowflakes grow and evolve in size and shape, adapting to changing temperatures and humidity levels along the way. This unique process yields snowflakes with distinct complexities, each one unlike any other in terms of structure. When frozen rime forms around them, they transform into balls known as graupel. Although made entirely of transparent ice, snowflakes appear white due to the diffuse reflection of light off their numerous small crystal facets, creating a dazzling visual effect.
