Early Christian marble sarcophagus showcases pivotal scenes from the New Testament. Crafted in the 4th century A.D., this magnificent artifact now resides in Barcelona. The Acadèmia de Bones Lletres carefully collected it during the 19th century, after its discovery in the late 18th century when it stood outside a hostel called Sabre in Barcelona. Transferred from Barcelona to Geneva during the tumultuous Spanish Civil War (1936-39), the sarcophagus eventually arrived by train in Madrid in 1939. On June 19 of that year, Martín Almagro, the newly appointed director of the Archaeological Museum of Barcelona, received it along with 68 other boxes. Since then, this treasured relic has been safely housed at the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya (MAC).
