Early 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner Overhead Switch Console
thingiverse
Made to replace the little compartment with something a bit more useful. It is angled down and towards the driver for better access and visibility. There are two models, one with factory sized openings, and a blank to cut out your own to add custom switches, indicator LEDs, etc. The length of the switch will be limited with how this is designed to fit the console, but I'm almost positive OEM seat heater switches can fit up there, which was my original design intent. The little drop door will need to be removed along with the “fingers” in the top slots of the console. You will need (4) M3.5x8 flathead screws and nuts, and (2) #6x 3/8 flathead coarse thread screws (wood type), and finish washers. To assemble the model first countersink the holes on the outside of the panel so the screw heads (M3.5s) sit flush or near flush with the side. The mounts are DS and PS and mount to the inside of the panel accordingly, looking at it. The nuts are captive in the mounts so everything should be self aligning. After the mounts are attached the model will side up and into the little slots that the fingers were cut from...it's a bit tight. After the panel is positioned in the console install the #6s and finish washers in the mount holes on top to pull the mounts up and tight against the console. Few things to note. It is nearly impossible to mount the console when using the blank model and there are no cutouts. The angle is too great with too little clearance to come up though the bottom (if anybody can figure how to do it please post it here). When mounting the switch cutout console use the leftmost opening for access. When doing the final install, leave the leftmost switch out but still connected, mount the console, then push the switch into the opening.
