Earbud Case

This case is designed to wrap your earbud wire around the middle, keeping them from getting tangled. A hole is included in the design to hold the earbud pieces separate from the wire. Project Objectives Students will learn how to use revolve tools and cut parts from a solid, mastering curved surfaces that can still be extruded and cut even though they're not smooth. Audiences All ages can use this project for their earbuds when they're not watching or listening to music or entertainment. Preparation Students need a pair of earbuds to make sure the measurements are useful (this design was created to fit Samsung earbuds). They should have background knowledge with the inventor program and know how to use revolve, ellipse, cut, and extrude tools. Steps 1. Draw a circle 2.625 inches across in the XY plane and finish the sketch. 2. Create a new sketch in the XZ plane and draw an ellipse that's .625 tall and .876 across. Make sure the middle point is on the bottom touching one end of the top of the circle from step one, then finish the sketch. 3. Extrude the first circle back .625 inches, extruding in the direction where you drew your second sketch (ellipse). 4. Revolve the ellipse around the axis in the middle of the extruded circle and choose to cut from the solid. 5. Draw a hole to clip the earbuds in, starting anywhere on either flat surface of the shape. The hole should be an ellipse that's .5 inches across and .312 inches high. Make sure the bottom middle point connects to the outside of the flat circle's face. Do not finish sketch yet. 6. Now you have your ellipse drawn; draw a notch for the earbud pieces along the edge of the main solid, center it, then connect two straight lines on either side up to the edge of the ellipse and trim the edge of the ellipse in the middle of the two lines. 7. Finish sketch and extrude/cut the edited ellipse down enough to only create a notch and not edit the solid underneath. Print Results Students will have designed an easy organizing tool that fits their earbuds, achieving the intentional result by mastering how to use revolution, trim, ellipse, extrude, and cut tools in inventor.
