Ear saver (a space-saving shape, for laser cutter)

thingiverse

Our team designed an ear-saver that can be cut efficiently at a lasercutter without wasting much material. The device's shape fits the space of the plastic sheet perfectly, as opposite sides are complementary - take a look at the photos for examples. You'll find SVG files in our provided designs: one piece, two and three pieces combined, and an SVG file for adding another piece (with one side missing to avoid overlapping lines). Some laser cutters' software can automatically eliminate these lines. We've also included DXF and PDF formats of the basic file for your convenience. We used polypropylene sheets with 1mm thickness, available in pieces measuring 100x100cm or 35x50cm. Our design optimizes the use of plastic efficiently. The ICTP stands for International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy - we're the staff of the institute's fablab. If you find this useful, make more pieces and share them with others! Thanks for using our design, and enjoy making it work for you!
