The E6B earns its nickname "Whiz Wheel" due to its exceptional functionality. Although largely replaced by onboard electronic flight computers, the E6B remains a valuable tool for flight training or as a backup. With an E6B, pilots can perform complex flight planning calculations with ease. These include calculating wind correction, fuel burn, time and distance, and ground speed. The E-6B was first introduced in the late 1930s by Navy Lieutenant Philip Dalton and quickly gained widespread popularity for military and airline use nationwide.
