E3DV6 light direct drive head
thingiverse
This is light well balanced direct drive head which weights around 215 grams. Pros: Light weight (lighter than original bowden Sapphire PRO head 252 grams) Well balanced Belt tension iterated Easy belt tightening Easy and tight mount of the E3DV6 hotend Short path from extruder to the nozzle Good cable management Minimum additional parts needed Low cost (For Sapphire PRO printer) Y axes become 170 grams lighter Cons: No BLTouch supported (For sapphire PRO printer) Noise slightly increased, I think this is because of plastic mounts for X and Y motors. 1 mm rubber washer between motors and mounts may solve the problem. Main housing require support on the flat surface (see image). Otherwise all parts are supportless. To install this head on the Sapphire pro printer additional parts needed (use Sapphire PRO stl.zip). This project may require some minimal mechanical skills, such as sanding, drilling, adjusting, finding solutions for mysterious situations. Detailed instructions may follow in the future. Future improvements: Actual max. print speed is around 150 mm/s for PETG, extruder motor start to skip steps. I think that limitation due to the heated block. To increase print speed Volcano heating block + nozzle may needed. Reduce noise level by installing rubber gasket between all motors and mounting parts. IMPORTANT!!! To use files, download files and remove .stl in the .zip.stl extension, then use files as standard zip archives. More questions/suggestions? Feel free to comment. Best Nik
