E3D V6 parametric fanduct adapter (30 > 40mm)
thingiverse
A simple parametric fanduct adapter to mount Noctua fans directly onto the stock E3D v6 fan holder, which securely snaps around the heatsink. You can easily adjust the total length of the fanduct and take advantage of X/Y offsets specifically designed for the 40mm fanside, making it a quick and efficient solution. Although this parametric model may not be perfect, I aimed to create a short and smooth fanduct that gets the job done. I've thoroughly tested the adapter with various fan configurations, including a 1mm offset, no offset at all, default size (12mm total), and an extra +5mm in length. These tests were conducted using both A4x10 & A4x20 FLX Noctua fans, and I'm pleased to report that even the 10mm fan performed flawlessly on PLA prints at temperatures ranging from 210-215-220°C. However, for optimal results with the A4x10 fan, I highly recommend using a laminar flow plate, which you can find here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:432630. It's worth noting that this adapter is not a fan cover and should be installed after the fan, ensuring proper airflow and optimal performance. The laminar flow plate is only necessary for the A4x20 fan, so be sure to omit it when printing with the larger model. E3D V6 hotends and Noctua fans have a unique relationship, which I've experienced firsthand. While my A4x10 setup worked well initially, I anticipate that summer conditions will push it to its limits. To address this concern, I upgraded to an A4x20 fan, just in case. For now, this fanduct adapter provides a reliable solution for those seeking improved airflow and reduced restriction. However, I'm eager to see the perfect mod or E3D carriage design emerge from the community. To get the best possible results when printing this adapter, I recommend using a low layer height of 0.1/0.12mm. This will help ensure a smooth finish and optimal performance.
