I just glued them on instead of using the screws (I didn't have the right size screw and I wanted to printnow).

I would suggest also getting the E3D silicon sleeve for your heating block, as it seems part of the air flows against the side of it, potentially limiting your maximum maintainable temperature when cooling the part.

The original part by evgs was a good design, but I found that the E3D fins had almost a 1mm gap between the plastic and edge of the fins for air to slip out without cooling the hotend.

I took the original E3D v6 fan holder design part and mixed it with evgs' clever design to make a better fitting fan mount. Other advantage that wasn't planned is that the 40mm fan is now closer to the hotend fins, meaning you're less likely to have your fan stick out from under your effector platform.

Be careful when printing with PLA, it's a little brittle. I'd recommend printing it in ABS or XT if you can, for simple flexibility reasons.

The original 30mm fan screws are a bit too long, I had to stick 4 or 5 washers on the outside to get the fan to mount flush without breaking the bottom of the hole... The 25mm fans mount with 12mm M3 screws (if your fans are 8 or 10mm thick at least).

Cooling is much more effective on the hotend now, and I had to readjust my PIDs with the new fan mount.

[EDIT 24/01/2017]

I removed the previous versions of the part as it could lead to confusion. Also uploaded an image showing the part mounted with the original E3D 30mm fan and 2x25mm cooling fans on the side under my Kossel Mini effector.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

RepRap

Printer:

RepRap Kossel

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2mm

Infill:

100%

Notes:

Recommend printing in a higher-temp plastic like Edge/XT/PETG, ABS or Nylon if you can, as it does sit close to the hot part of the hotend. Depending on what material you normally print the lower cooling fins can get pretty warm.

Category: 3D Printer Extruders
