E3D Titan mount for Ultimaker
thingiverse
The mount is designed to be used with UM+ or other printers that have the same XY rods configuration. I use a small, flat stepper motor to minimize print area loss (the loss occurs on the y-axis, roughly equal to the thickness of the motor). Because the motor has shorter threads, I had to use a stepper distance modifier; there is one attached between the motor and the Titan, about a few mm apart. I recommend using nylon nuts because the motor becomes extremely warm (around 60C). It's a relatively simple model that can be used with 4 screws provided with the Titan. The upper two screws (long ones) use a distance plate that also holds the wires in place. One of the lower screws goes through the bearing cylinder, so I suggest installing it before adding bearings. The hotend is at the same height as the standard UM hotend (a slight z-endstop adjustment may be needed). A cooling shroud is included; I use a snap-on design similar to the standard V6, but with added mounts for 40mm fans on both sides. +++ IMPORTANT +++ The flat stepper motor I'm using is rated at 1A of power. The standard Nema 17 motor for UM extruders can draw up to 2A and will overheat if not corrected, causing problems with the extruder. To prevent this, I reduce the motor current in Cura's start gcode: M907 X1100 Y1100 Z1100 E850. The flat stepper cannot run reliably without heat sinks, so a few have been attached. In Cura, set the "E-steps per 1mm filament" property to 350 for optimal performance with this setup. A retraction distance of 1.5mm and a retraction speed of 25mm/sec work perfectly. I reduced acceleration from 2000 to 1500. I added two 12V, 40mm fans in series, connected to the standard UM 19V output. They run great with at least 40% power.
