E3D Dual/Single direct drive extruder conversion for Felix Printer
thingiverse
Hi folks, I'm releasing my dual or single E3D V6 Extruder as a replacement for the standard 3.0 dual extrusion. It's still in beta stage but performs much better than the standard unit in my case. I wanted to try out the E3D Nozzle because I experienced plenty of jams with the Felix version 4 nozzle, and the M4 nuts from the extruder mounting couldn't be tightened anymore. They were "turning" inside the extruder brackets due to excessive space, so I decided to develop my own conversion kit. It's been working for 50 hours now without any issues, and the dual extrusion setup has yet to be tested! I have only one E3D, but the mounting looks rigid enough and leveling shouldn't be much more difficult. Be aware that there are different files for left or right hand extruder, and you don't need to tighten the hinge of the front door; a M3 bolt works just fine. It would be great if some of you could give it a try, write a feedback, or do a remix and post them here. Pros: The possibility to print Filaflex reliably is a huge advantage, as I sometimes had troubles with the stock hardware when nozzles were on the lower end of the tightening mechanism. Easy removal of the second extruder results in a lighter carriage, leading to faster prints due to a reduced printhead weight. Multi material testing showed excellent results with PLA, ABS, Filaflex, and Taulman Bridge materials. My setup exhibits much more reliability. Cons: You'll lose approximately 10mm of print area on the X and Z axis. I won't provide an assembly guide; you should be able to work with the CAD files and pictures just fine with a few additional bolts. Be aware that you must change the Thermistor settings in the Repetier Firmware to Number 8! A how-to guide can be found on the E3D Wiki page. All changes made to your Felix printer are done at your own risk.
