E3D Cooling Fan for v5 not v6 Free 3D print model

6/4/14 - I've added a version 3 STL file, boosting room for the fan and ditching built-in support since that's been tough to dislodge. The new Slic3r supposedly packs better support generation, so give it a shot - but be warned: this is untested. If you do print it out, please chime in on your results. The original v2 STL - yes, the 2 breakout sections are a bit finicky to remove, but check the CAD view for yellow breakup cues - just go slow and deliberate with it. I've been running this cooling fan non-stop for two months now, cranking out cameras from my Pinhole Printed Kickstarter project (http://www.pinholeprinted.com), and it's delivered flawlessly without needing a secondary fan. This setup is a hybrid cooling fan designed specifically for the E3D mounted on my Solidoodle 3. The original hot end went belly-up once too many times, prompting me to swap in the reliable E3D. But with the E3D's built-in fan and beefy size, I needed a separate print cooling solution that wouldn't shrink the build volume any further than the E3D did - hence this combined 40mm fan design that blows air to both the heatsink (2/3) and print surface (1/3). No fancy airflow control, just good ol' fashioned DIY simplicity. Here's how I'd size it up: if you're not dealing with a filament temperature headache, this cooling fan is strictly optional. But if you do need to tame that filament heat some, give this hybrid design a try - and be sure to check the revised instructions under a separate tab before firing it up!
