E3D Chimera Dual Fan Anet Rail Mount with BLTouch

This is a comprehensive mounting system designed specifically for the E3D Chimera dual extrusion hot end, tailored to fit Anet A8 style X rails. After experimenting with various designs that split airflow from a single cooling fan into two separate parts, I found this setup produces suboptimal results, leading to print curling and nozzle catching issues. This design addresses these concerns by utilizing two paired radial fans that blast air directly at the part, effectively stopping curling and catching problems. The right-hand fan mount features a mounting point for a BLTouch Z probe. If you're using this setup, be aware that the offsets compared to the leftmost nozzle are X36, Y-28.5, Z-2.80. For optimal results with the hotend fan, I recommend using the 30mm one that comes with the hotend. However, I'm currently utilizing a 40mm Noctua fan for better cooling and acoustic performance - a 30mm-40mm fan adapter can easily be adapted to fit this setup. As I'm working with a RAMPS 1.4 board in EEB configuration, it's essential to add an extra fan pin to the Marlin firmware and either design or purchase a fan extender board. I'd be happy to share my schematics for this if needed. For printing purposes, it's recommended to use PETG as this material offers superior temperature resistance. The two fan mounts require slightly longer screws to secure them into the bearings; alternatively, you can superglue them to the backplane using the screws as index pins like I did. To ensure a smooth print job, supports from the buildplate are necessary for the fan ducts only.
