I purchased a duplicate e3d bowden extruder, as they seem to only be available in bowden form, and wanted to integrate it with my PrintrBot. Surprisingly, it functioned better than the direct model because the bowden nut provided additional support compared to using just a spacer. This adapter is specifically designed to fit snugly around that nut. To activate the fan without modifying the firmware or constantly having it turned on, I simply connected it to a mosfet on the expansion header. The fan can be easily controlled by issuing M42 P{pin} S{state}. To automate this process, I included the necessary commands in my start/end g-code. I acquired this clone for $16 and was thoroughly impressed with its performance as a hotend, accompanied by numerous extra components.
