E3D 40mm Fan Duct (.duct Remix)
thingiverse
This is the redesigned "duct" 40mm fan duct for the E3D V6 hot end from Aynareth with key modifications. Initially, the holes for attaching the fan to the original were too large to accommodate M3 screws in my setup. The screws were loose within the holes. Enlarging the screws that threaded into the duct didn't allow them to pass through my fan, so I adjusted the hole size to 2.6mm ID. This enables a self-tapping M3-sized screw to thread securely into place. The new holes are 6mm deep as on the original, requiring screws that protrude no more than 6mm from the back of your fan for mounting. Additionally, I rounded the corners slightly (2.5mm x 2.5mm) to match the contour of my fan. A 40mm Noiseblocker silent fan is currently in use, which operates very quietly indeed. While it doesn't move as much air as the stock 30mm fan did, this hasn't been an issue so far, especially considering I've only printed with PLA material. A standard 40mm fan should move significantly more air than the silent one and remain quieter than the 30mm fans.
