E-Wings Vortigaunt Wing Equipment Bays
thingiverse
These are inserts and covers to create equipment bays in the wings of the E-Wings Vortigaunt EPP flying wing kit. I have provided STLs of the left wing bay insert and cover - mirrored in the X plane for the right-hand wing in your slicer. Additionally, a type B wing bay with a cable channel cut into the wing-tip side of the bay is included if you need to break out a cable/wire on that side. Choose the style that suits you best and mirror it in X accordingly. Two brass M3 heat-set inserts and two M3 countersink bolts approximately 10mm in length are required to secure the cover. Set the inserts into the 4.2mm holes inside the bays with a soldering iron at around 300 degrees, ensuring the top of the insert is just below the top of the plastic. This will allow the cover to sit fully down into the bay. Print a copy of the cutting template and secure it in place on the wing using thin double-sided tape. The template should be positioned approximately 102mm from the leading edge of the wing to the front edge of the bay insert, and around 30mm from the root-edge of the wing to the side of the bay insert closest to the root. Ensure there is enough room for the vertical stabilizer mounts. My photographs show the bays cut a bit too close for comfort; you can give yourself more room without compromising the wing/bay insert profile match. Carefully cut around the template as closely as possible. The template is designed such that the bay insert fits frictionlessly into the cut recess if you are accurate. Once the hole is cut, remove the template and excavate the foam to a depth where the top edge of the printed bay insert sits about 1.5mm from the top surface of the foam. This will allow the printed cover to sit flush against the wing surface. Once satisfied, secure in place with glue and enjoy.
