E-Wings Vortigaunt Alternative Motor Mount
thingiverse
This is a custom-designed motor mount for the E-Wings Vortigaunt forward-swept EPP flying wing. I have specific design principles that my motor mounts must adhere to, and while the kit-supplied mount is satisfactory, I wanted to publish my own design which is easier to fit and allows for very easy removal / replacement of the motor if necessary. The mount is designed exclusively for outboard mounting - there is no inboard mounting option with this design. The motor thrust angle of this mount naturally matches the thrust angle of the E-Wings original mount. You will require 4 x M3 nyloc nuts and (optionally) 2 x brass M3 heat-set inserts, along with M3 bolts of suitable length to mount your motor. The motor mounting bolt pattern is 24 x 19. If you have a particular need for a different mounting pattern, let me know and I'll endeavor to provide a customized model for you to print. To install, prepare the nyloc nuts by carefully applying some CA adhesive to the outside of the nyloc nut and press into the recesses in the rear of the mount. Prepare the rear of the fuselage by sanding lightly, apply UHU Por or E6000 or any EPP foam glue to the mating parts and then bring together - clamp or tape until set. Bolt the motor to the mounting plate using M3 bolts - you may be able to use small washers but check the washers don't foul the plastic of the main body when brought together. Bolt the motor and mounting plate to the main body of the mount using 4 M3 bolts of suitable length, approximately 10mm long.
