E-waste E-bike
thingiverse
I'm uploading an initial mock up of a design that I'd like to share as open source and invite criticism on. This is just the starting point for creating a modular and adjustable bike system. My intentions behind this design are: 1. To make it adaptable for various bikes. 2. To ensure components can be easily swapped out with moderate redesign, making it highly modular. 3. To utilize common components found in electronic waste to keep costs low. 4. To allow quick removal from the bike when locking up in public spaces. 5. To enable building and using the system without circuit boards. The areas that need further development are: 1. Adjustable idler arm on motor mounts for tensioning. 2. Cog teeth interface. 3. Low-wear material for rollers. 4. Throttle mechanism. 5. Rigidity of the mount. I believe this list is in order of importance, with solving 1 and 2 being crucial to creating a working prototype that can be tested. This is my next step. The throttle will operate similarly to a motorcycle twist throttle, using switches for each motor. Position one will turn on one motor, position two will turn on two motors, and so on. If you're interested in collecting materials for this design, I recommend keeping an eye out for portable power tools and appliances that are discarded due to circuit board failures or similar issues. Many of these items have the motors used as models, along with useful 18650 cells, wires, and switches. Additional hardware needed includes: M8x130mm bolts M8 nuts M5 nuts, bolts, and washers M3 nuts bolts and washers Appropriate timing belts OD16mm ID 8mm length 5mm bearings This list is not exhaustive, and you can adjust the parts to what's available if you modify the design with modest redesign.
