I acquired an E-Rod motorized curtain rod from Lowe's during a sale priced at around $70. It was not for closing curtains but to shut my sliding window at night. Living near the ocean, I enjoy the soothing sound of waves and breeze; however, morning noises disturb my sleep. The E-Rod initially had a noisy gear reduction motor, so I replaced it with a quieter windshield wiper motor from eBay for about $30. The motor is a 91-97 Toyota Previa rear wiper model. I designed an adapter plate to mount the new motor on the E-Rod. Though the original controller's current sensing circuitry cannot handle the new motor's load, I plan to modify it in future weeks. Additionally, I made wall-mounting brackets using existing holes due to brick walls and window casings.
