This e-NABLE hand is outfitted with a cutting-edge prototype of a reliable and functioning bidirectional communications link to the e-NABLE servers and back to the hand. The link utilizes WiFi technology courtesy of the compact yet potent ESP8266 module. Its primary objective is to provide valuable usage data for enhancing the quality of e-NABLE's hands and arms. With a total cost under $20 USD, this device can seamlessly adapt and improve with new updates, much like a rapidly learning puppy. At present, it solely reports the battery voltage every 10 minutes or so to the central servers, which store each report in a text file. Future developments will include recording closures per hour as an additional metric. Furthermore, the device has the capability to receive commands from the central servers, facilitating hand-to-hand communications, audio, video, sensor control, and actuator functions. Although it is currently being tested solely with usage data, these features are anticipated for future inclusion. The idea for this project originated in the e-NABLE G+ group, gradually gained momentum among its members, and eventually blossomed into a comprehensive initiative with the participation of beta testers, retired engineers, college students, professors, and soon Veteran's Administration (VA) military personnel will also be included. Despite its size on this 100% hand, which is the smallest standard hand size available, it can easily be miniaturized to a much smaller size, or alternatively, larger hands for kids and adults may find it easier to handle due to their greater surface area. After all, it's a prototype that undergoes modifications and refinement until its final, polished form is achieved.
