E-cigars mimic traditional cigarettes by generating vapor that imitates tobacco smoke's feel, appearance, and flavor (with optional nicotine) minus its pungent odor and, purportedly, associated health hazards. E-cigarette devices apply heat or, occasionally, ultrasonic waves to turn a liquid propylene glycol- or glycerin-based solution into an aerosol similar to how nebulizers and humidifiers vaporize treatments for inhalation purposes.
