Bà Trần Thị Châu từ Tây Lộc, Huế, đã tham gia vào cuộc chiến chống Mỹ từ năm 1963-1975 với tư cách là một Thanh niên Xung phong. Trong suốt thời gian này, bà đã sử dụng chiếc Ăng gô như một công cụ đa dụng - từ việc chứa nước, cơm, đến việc đựng tài liệu và gạo tiếp tế, thậm chí nấu kim tiêm cứu chữa cho thương binh.
