I finally achieved a smooth print after noticing that the layer lines matched perfectly with where the clip's pressure is applied when inserted. To get there, I tweaked some settings and printed at a 45-degree angle with supports in place, which ended up fortifying the knobs nicely. Take a look at the images to see exactly how I set things up. As it turned out, this was one of my initial designs, and I'm still new to all this, but I was thrilled that everything worked out as planned! You can find the STL file, fusion360 file, and STEPs file attached for your reference.
