Dynatron G30 Supermicro Xeon-D Heat Sink 60mm Noctua Fan Mount
thingiverse
This is a modified fan mount for the Dynatron G30 heatsink, stock fan is a 50mm unit, that fits Supermicro embedded Xeon-D motherboards. I bought it for use with a Supermicro X10SDV-4C-TLN2F motherboard, but the packaging states that it is for i3/5/7 units as well; I suppose it comes down to the size/wattage of the chip in question & probably is for lower watt embedded units. The Heatsink in question fits both models that came with & without a Heatsink fan. A colleague wanted a small NAS server & got the aforementioned motherboard on my suggestion. However, in the small ITX server case (one of the models with 4 hard disk caddies) the CPU was basically always at its thermal limit - even when the fan was upgraded to one of the newer Noctua NF-A 120mm units. I’m sure that even with the stock 50mm fan this Heatsink would provide a solid improvement, but given that the temp limit was being hit even when essentially idle I figured that using a standard width 60mm fan would be a welcome modification (the standard fan is about 10mm thick) + this allows for PWM control of the fan. As space is tight in the case, and I’m sure for many other installs using this type of mobo, I wanted something that would limit the increase in height. In addition I didn’t have much luck finding a fan adapter for 50mm to 60mm (I did see one model, but it was for fitting a 50mm fan) so I figured I would put together my own model quickly for him. After printing it I noticed that the bracket is about 1/2mm off center, but I didn’t take the time to fix this. The Heatsink mounting flanges could be squeezed together a bit, maybe 1/2mm in total, but it’s fine as is. The fan mounting holes are countersunk & can fit standard fan mounting screws so that they’re flush & there is a bit of a chamfer on the main opening as well. Given that the CPU maxes out at about 80-90 C PETG may not be able to handle the heat. If you’re worried about that/you’re experiencing very high chip temps it may make sense to print the model in something like ABS, ASA, etc (while the chip might reach 90 C I am not sure what temp the Heatsink itself reaches). I printed mine in Pursament PETG, what I had loaded, using a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layer heights and it turned out fine. With these settings there are only 10 layers to the main body so infill isn’t really of concern.
