This is a simple dynamic gyroscope. While studying Dynamics (2) last semester, I came across with this device during the course and was immediatelly attracted to it. So yesterday I had enough free time to design one according to my imaginations, So I did.
Just in case you don't know what a gyroscope fundamentally is...,
A gyroscope is a device consisting of three rotating bodies attached to one another, rotating perpendicular to each other. This device and many diffferent variants have been used in naval navigation, mobile phones, etc. when the direction of the outer ring is modified (it is being turned) while the main body is rotating at speed, the direction of inner ring is not changed; it keeps facing the same direction, and when a moment is applied to the main body while rotating, it doesn't turn in the direction of the moment; it turns toward a direction perpendicular to the direction of the moment. The former one is used in ship navigation (when the ship turns, the main body of the gyroscope doesn't turn. it keeps pointing at north, for example) and the latter is called "the gyroscopic effect" and is the main reason why you can keep the bicycle's balance easier when you are moving.
