Dynamic Diameter Spool Holder
thingiverse
As its name suggests, this self-adjusting spring-loaded spool holder expands to fit most common spools' inner diameter. I had been pondering this upgrade for a while now, as it's based on my previous spool holder (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:770657) and after some research I came across a site/references where they were also tackling the same issue in their own way(http://richrap.blogspot.com/2014/03/universal-3d-printing-filament-spool.html). 48 hours prior to its deadline, I accepted the challenge, allowing me to learn more about Rhino and Grasshopper, as well as tackle one of my issues - multi-color prints, which requires frequent spool changes. I came close to completing this design iteration but still had two other ideas that needed refinement, which required fewer parts; these designs will be worked on and tested. Please feel free to provide feedback or share any relevant ideas. Thanks. Instructions Apart from these printable parts, 2 bearings with OD 28mm and ID 12mm are required: one is inserted into the "DDSH-003" part, followed by "DDSH-004", then another bearing and cap "DDSH-001". Three prints of "DDSH-005" are also necessary; these clamps will expand into the spool. A spring with a diameter of 7mm and length of approximately 30mm is needed for these clamps. Once assembled, the outer handle must contract the clamps, making it easy to remove the pool.
