Human: A haunting reenactment of reality captured three years ago at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. A wounded gladiator stands tall, facing his inevitable demise with unwavering courage and poise, as he contemplates the laurel wreath awarded to him for his bravery. Julien's nude sculpture showcases his exceptional mastery of anatomy, as well as his skillful rendering of drapery at the rear. However, it was the sculptor's personal touch that imbues the work with its emotional depth: the elegant proportions, sumptuous modeling and delicate execution (the intricate details of the hands, laurel leaves and strands of hair), the marble's flawless finish and the precise rendition of textures (the gleam of the shield and sword hint at their metallic sheen). Julien aimed to immortalize the heroism of a man overcoming his pain and meeting his fate with stoic silence. The balanced composition, dignified stance, subtle chest wound and restrained expression are formal expressions of this heroic composure.
