Dying Adonis
myminifactory
This captivating sculpture exudes a dynamic theatricality and meticulous anatomical precision, bringing to life an exceptionally handsome youth who caught Venus's eye despite being unrequited. Adonis met his untimely demise at the hands of a ferocious wild boar, and even Venus's intervention proved too late to save him from mortal harm. The marble statue, whose original intended home remains unknown, was acquired by Isabella de'Medici, daughter of Cosimo I, for her estate at Poggio Baroncelli (later renamed Poggio Imperiale) where it resided until 1873.
