The Viking dwelling was a sturdy wooden structure built to withstand the harsh Scandinavian climate. Its walls were constructed from thick planks of wood, carefully fitted together without the use of nails or metal fasteners. A turf roof provided excellent insulation against the cold, while the door was reinforced with iron bands for added security.
