DVD player wall mount
thingiverse
DVD player wall mount. My media center is a NUC running openelec, and it's hidden behind the TV where I want it to stay, keeping things nice and simple as intended. When a DVD player becomes necessary, I've got an external drive attached and ready to roll, always. The time had come for me to make a wall mount bracket for this external DVD drive so it too can hide from view behind the TV, blending seamlessly with the other hidden systems I've put in place. My external DVD drive is an LG GP08LU10 (I got it here: http://www.lg.com/us/burners-drives/lg-GP08LU10-external-dvd-burner) - I figured a mount like this was a necessity and I wasn't about to hold back on building one. A problem did pop up during the printing process, however - my expectation had been that the bracket would be a certain size but what actually showed up in 3D form ended up being a lot bigger. With this new understanding of things, not nearly enough glue was applied, and even before I'd eaten dinner it became clear most of the support material was about to give way under its own weight. Despite my concern for getting it just right at first glance (so to speak), I did end up letting the print finish its work and in retrospect I see now this might have actually helped me measure how well everything fit. Anyway, my biggest shock lay ahead because, when all was said and done, I realized this mount's fit for the DVD drive turned out almost perfect. What model had I used to start with? It so happened I printed out a special alpha version - not the only way it works mind you but what did strike me funny was that even though this particular mount might've come in slightly bigger than my exact measurements said they should be, that didn't end up being too much of an issue after all. There's a rubber feed right on there so when everything came together and I took out my LG for a test drive - it stayed perfectly securely held to the wall no less. That got me wondering whether using that design had helped give my print an advantage. Which brings us nicely to something I did end up posting, a beta version of the exact same DVD mount, the catch being you have to remember there was never any chance for anyone (including yours truly) who wanted more results could take it home and use their real devices - just the same I would recommend taking some caution if that version becomes available to people who want their 3D printed wall mount brackets. But in all reality this mount won't be exposed since there's a screen hiding everything.
