This mill was built here in 1862 as a successor to a standard mill, but it was not new at the time: before that time, this mill stood as a ground sailor in De Lutte near Oldenzaal. The steward of the “Heerlijkheid Het Stift” in Weerselo purchased that mill. The mill was subsequently rebuilt as an octagonal tower mill at its current location. In the substructure, stones from a stable at the former Striftspoort were incorporated.Around 1895, the Het Stift mill was transferred to the Kleijssen family. The reason is known: lack of money. It is assumed that the family was already leasing the mill at that time.In 1954, the mill, which was still in operation, was extensively renovated. In later years the mill deteriorated and eventually fell into disrepair. A major restoration followed in 1973, which included new rods.Since 1982, the mill has been managed by the De Molenhof Erve Kleijsen Foundation, the board of which is formed by the five Kleijsen brothers and sisters. The Kleijsen children decided to establish this foundation after the death of their father. The Molen de Vier Winden Foundation was founded in 2000. The mill was restored in 2003 under the supervision of the Foundation. They currently manage the mill together with guides, shop managers and millers.Grain is milled every Saturday afternoon from April to October when there is sufficient wind. Mill products such as pancake flour, bread baking flour, linseed oil, etc. are sold in the shop.
