sketchfab
Dutch Loch Mills on Papa Stour, Shetland Isles, Scotland, Remain Active. The remnants of at least three horizontal mills used for milling corn lie between Dutch Loch and the Sea. A stone dam is used to raise the water level in Dutch Loch, a sluice at the centre of the dam controls the water into a channel (lade) that feeds the mills, further channels and sluices direct the water onto horizontal/side shot water wheels which turn a single millstone. These mills were last used in the early 20th century. The model is created using vertical kite aerial photographs which have resulted poor levels of detail in some of the vertical wall sections of the mills.
