Dutch Kettle
sketchfab
Native peoples exchanged wampum and beaver pelts for European goods such as metal kettles, which they skillfully cut to specific sizes and shapes before remaking them into useful tools and ornaments. This model is part of the Native Knowledge 360° digital lesson, Early Encounters in Native New York: Did Native People Really Sell Manhattan? This lesson showcases Native perspectives, images, documents, and other sources to help students and teachers understand how the 17th century fur trade brought together two cultures with different values and ideas about exchange. Native Knowledge 360° is a national education initiative by the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian that provides educators and students with fresh insights into Native American history, cultures, and contemporary lives.
