DupliHood: a 3D-printed slide copy attachment

Here's a simple little (okay, it's really not) slide copy adapter that perfectly fits into the filter screw thread of a close-focusing lens so you can rapidly produce high-quality digital copies of 35mm or 6x6cm slides using your trusty digital camera. It's an incredibly customizable device because you will most likely need to fine-tune its design parameters for your unique lens setup. See my step-by-step guide at http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Slide-Copy-Attachment/, for more detailed information. **Step-by-Step Instructions** There's now a third version available here, 20161022, updated to accommodate a bug in MakerBot's Customizer. The second version, 20140824, has several improvements, including a fast print option so you can test the fit and alignment of the screw thread, while the original 20140817 version is still accessible... just with a renamed title to prevent customizer from picking it up. This project requires no advanced skills; you'll simply want to create the tube using opaque black filament. Make sure to design the spring film holder in a neutral color that won't add a color cast, which I achieved with white filament. If you choose to include the diffuser, use white or clear filament – though it's not required and might lead to even better results by incorporating a soft light source. To minimize material waste, I printed all the parts using PLA in 0.25mm extrusion with 25% fill and still managed to keep total weight under 100 grams, ensuring rapid prints on my MakerGear M2 3D printer. Some truly striking examples include Copenhagen photographs that only required a 25-minute scan on a Nikon CoolScan 9000 while displaying remarkable similarities in resolution when shot with the same DupliHood setup attached to a Sony A7 – showcasing surprisingly consistent image quality. Incorporating this design has potential for significant results: see my detailed walkthrough and some high-quality sample photos at http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Slide-Copy-Attachment/.
