Duplicator i3 v2.1 Back Plate for 80mm fan
thingiverse
I designed a back plate for my Duplicator i3 V2.1 printer that accommodates an 80mm fan. The stock power socket and switch won't fit, so I replaced them with individual power plug sockets and switches (see the list of required supplies below). This 80mm fan is significantly quieter than the stock fan and provides better airflow. My back plate features a built-in honeycomb grate to keep fingers out of the fan blades. I went back and optimized this model to work with 0.4mm nozzles and a 0.28mm layer height, allowing it to print much faster than the original version 2. I also moved the switches to the left side and the cords to the right to better suit my printer's layout, which has the control box on the right. Assembly Instructions: No soldering is required. Simply unplug the individual wires and move them to the new switch, plug, and fan (refer to the attached picture). - The red jumper goes from the terminal labeled "L" on the C14 socket to one side of the power switch. - The red wire goes to the other side of the power switch. - The black wire goes to the terminal labeled "N" on the C14 socket. - The yellow wire goes to the center terminal on the C14 socket. - The fan wires attach red to red and black to black. The yellow wire on the fan connector is not used. I use 0.28mm instead of 0.3mm because many 3D printers have a z-axis step resolution of 0.04mm. By setting the layer height to 0.28mm, you get cleaner layers and better layer-to-layer adhesion.
