Duplicator 9 Larger Extruder Cover for TL-Smoother

This is to replace the cover that goes on top of the Wanhao D9 MK10 extruder assembly. I based it off the original cover dimensions and made it taller to fit a TL-Smoother inside. The TL-Smoother must be the design that has the connector going up from the circuit board instead of out to the side.

2018-12-28:
Further testing has shown that regular PLA is still not heat resistant enough to keep it from warping. Because of this, I used Sunlu PLA+ and used the (almost boiling) hot water treatment to anneal the PLA+ so that it could stand higher temps. Do some research on it and you will see it changes the part to handle higher temps. Sunlu PLA+ only shrank by less than 1% it seemed during the process which didn't seem to affect the parts fit on the extruder. Regular PLA can be annealed but it shrinks a lot more and likely would not fit without printing a bigger part to begin with. The PLA+ part is holding up to the heat now. To anneal the part, I got a big pot on the stove, stretched aluminum foil across it and let it hang down so that the part would rest on it under the water so that it was just under the water. I didn't want it to go to the bottom or edges of the pot where it is a lot hotter. I didn't cover the pot enitrely with aluminum foil as you want the hot water to easily move around onto the part, I only stretched a strip of aluminum foil a little wider than the part. I then heated the water to where it was just starting to create some small bubbles but not enough to boil. This seems to be the perfect temperature to anneal the PLA+. I let it sit at that temperature (adjusting the knob on the stove to keep it just under boiling) for 10 minutes. I did have to carefully remove some of the tiny bubbles collecting on the part is it made the part buoyant over time causing it to float. I then turned off the heat after the 10 minutes was up and let the water cool.

2018-12-16: Version 6
Added vents on top and side to reduce heat build up.
Extended bottom 2mm downward so that it rests on the motor in back to give some more feedback when the cover is all the way down.
Increased hole size so that the dimples on the side of the extruder fit better inside the holes on the cover to lock it in place. This made a big difference.

Print Settings

Printer:

Duplicator 9

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

100%

Category: 3D Printer Parts
