Duplicator 6 Spool Holder
thingiverse
UPDATE 7/11/2018: * I increased bearing seat tolerance, as bearings still fitted too tightly. They can be tapped in with plastic hammer or wooden block, but it would be better if they fit easily. * I added grip to centering cones' edges to make them easier to turn. * I tapered the end of centering cones' thread for smoother installation. Notes: * Centering cones' thread is LEFT HAND (counterclockwise from normal) so that when spool spins, it tightens instead of loosening. * Files are 100% size; you must compensate for plastic shrinkage in your slicer. I printed this in PLA at 100% and it was fine. I may make adjustments as needed, so here is the Fusion 360 link: https://a360.co/2mdpkEt Most values are driven by parameters, making it easy to make changes. This spool holder fits Duplicator 6 or Monoprice Ultimate and allows wider spools to turn smoothly. It reuses existing nut. I designed this with better axial support for bearings and minimal parts. After seeing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2526942, I updated my version to include a threaded retainer that sandwiches the spool in the same way. Hardware: * 2x skate bearings * 1x 5/16 - 6 inch carriage bolt * 1x 5/16 - 3/4 inch washer * 1x 5/16 nylon nut Assembly: * Insert carriage bolt into threaded base, which is indexed with a square cutout in plastic. * Add the washer as a spacer. * Slide on one bearing and fit large outer tube on top. * Slide small inner tube inside. * Fit last bearing. * Add and tighten the nut. Adjust tension so that it rolls but not too fast. * Screw centering cone on all the way on and off a few times to chase threads and make them smoother.
