Duplicating House Keys Credit Card (Remix)
thingiverse
I was printing a house key from NRP's post on Thingiverse, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8925, for my wife. Of course she said, "No, not like that," and asked me to put it in her wallet, so I made her one. Then I thought some others might want that too, so here we are. This is currently only for Kwikset locks, particularly Kwikset keys, but I do plan on adding Schlage and others as I find them, so I will keep it listed as a work in progress for now. You'll need to print the key gauge posted by Lbussy at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2086917. Once that's printed, you'll need to get five numbers. You can get these numbers by running your key into the gauge to determine each gap in the key. The first number is the gap closest to the grip. Enter those five numbers and print. This is a plastic key, so I do recommend using it only in emergencies, but I have tested it with my Kwikset locks and every print has worked flawlessly on them. Print Settings: Printer: Maker Select Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 100% Notes: It's a quick print even at 100% infill, and I also recommend using ABS or stronger. How I Designed This I basically just copied over the SCAD code from NRP and added the "credit card" surrounding as well as a customizer for those who are afraid of SCAD.
