Duplicate a Model Project
thingiverse
Students in 7th grade are tasked with replicating a given model precisely, as part of an astronomy unit exploring the possibility of sending a mission to Mars. A potential application of 3D printing is to create essential parts needed during the journey. This exercise also evaluates students' ability to design and create 3D models. To accomplish this task, students will need a measuring tool, such as a ruler or calipers, to accurately gauge their part's dimensions. A chess pawn model I created served as the basis for this project; however, any other model can be substituted, varying in difficulty depending on student skill levels. Alternatively, students could be asked to fabricate a replacement part for a missing or broken classroom item.
