I've been immersing myself in my classic copy of Dune II, wondering what it would be like to have a board game or tabletop set based on the game. That got me thinking about taking each of the buildings and fleshing them out with intricate details using Alibre Design to a level of precision I hadn't thought possible. Would love your input on which additions or tweaks could be made to take these models to the next level, focusing particularly on how the textures and design elements could interact in interesting ways when arranged on a board or table setting. Please feel free to pass on any feedback you may have – but I will definitely not be attempting to model any of the tiny infantry or vehicles from the game as those would likely prove quite minuscule at scale. I'll be creating my designs for this set on standard 25.4mm x 25.4mm boards, which seems like a solid starting point for a board-based representation of Arrakis. Update: Oct 2019 - Exciting News! Since last reaching out, the Construction Yard, War Outpost and a substantial concrete slab measuring 4x4 in size have been painstakingly recreated with considerable care.
