Charles Dixon-Spain meticulously documented the Turret at Dunans just prior to its dismantling. This comprehensive model, coupled with extensive internal photography, will greatly benefit our contractor as they tackle the roof's reconstruction. When the photographs for this detailed model were captured, the roof was in such a fragile state that stripping away the very light green membrane put immense pressure on the sarking underneath - it turned out the staples securing fabric to the roof were significantly stronger than the hand-cut clouts fixing board to joists. The technical terms used to describe the roof's structure, particularly the structural timbers, was aptly referred to as 'cheese' due to its weakened state; this was further exacerbated by ementhal-style holes caused by an army of woodworms. For more information on the subsequent works following this survey, please visit DunansCastle.tv. The Turret at Dunans boasts a rich history, having been built around 1871, with subsequent repairs in 1910 and 1958, followed by stripping in 2007 and final dismantling in 2020.
